December 2012

Happy Holidays!  Of course, before you get to enjoy your holiday break, you have finals and all sorts of other important semester-ending goals to accomplish.  It’s hard in the rush of those details to think of anything but work, work, work.  I’m here to give you permission to go to a party – a party that could pay off significantly for you down the road.  Make plans now to attend one of the upcoming Winter Break Making Connections events while you’re home.  Click here to R.S.V.P. to the one closest to you.  You’ll meet lots of well-connected alumni who are eager to share their stories and their networks with bright Trinity students.  You could meet your future employer or just make a new friend who is more than happy to introduce you to his or her friends.   Either way, go eat someone else’s food in a nice setting and relax.  You’ve earned a good party and the opportunity to Make Connections in a meaningful way.  Happy Holidays!

Surviving Exam Period
Exam period is coming, and this is a great opportunity to boost the last GPA that graduate schools and employers will see!  Therefore, you should start preparing now.   First, make a list of all your remaining assignments and exams.   Second, break each task into manageable steps.  Third, estimate how many hours it will take you to accomplish each step for each item on your list.  Fourth, put the items on a calendar with your time estimates written next to them.  Now you know how many hours of work are needed on the days leading up to each due date, so you can plan accordingly.  For more specific study skills, please visit Counseling Services’ self-help page.

Dear Seniors,
The annual Winter Break Making Connections events are coming up in early January!  Hosted by Trinity Alumni Chapters all over the country, these events are special opportunities for students and alumni to come together, network, and build lasting, professional relationships. As you move ever closer to graduation, networking becomes more and more important.  Relationships with alumni can prove to be invaluable when you transition from college to career.  So, mark your calendars!  You can find more information about these events and R.S.V.P. in TigerJobs. Finally, we’d like to remind you that our office will remain open December 1 – 21, so feel free to call for an appointment with a career advisor (we also meet with students via Skype!) at 210-999-8321.  We’ll be closed December 24 – January 1.   We wish you the best of luck on your final exams and congratulate those who are graduating this month!  more>>
